Artist Bio
Described as New Zealand’s “pop prince” by his peers, Chris Bates is a steadily rising singer/songwriter known for his silky smooth vocals and tasteful pop melodies. Drawing influence from artists such as Charlie Puth, Justin Bieber, John Mayer, and Phil Collins, Bates embarked on his musical journey, transitioning from classical violin to pop at the age of 13, much to his mother’s dismay. In recent years, Bates has made waves in the music scene with singles like “November (No Hard Feelings)” and “Edinburgh,” earning coveted placements on playlists like Spotify’s New Music Friday AU/NZ and Apple Music’s New In Pop and New in Singer-Songwriter.
His latest EP, released late last year, showcases Bates’ evolution as a songwriter, featuring standout tracks like “Takeaway Cup,” garnering notable streaming numbers. His 4th EP is in the works currently.
